Matt Mendez is the author of Barely Missing Everything, The Broke Hearts, and the story collection Twitching Heart. His work, grounded in the communities and landscapes of the Southwest, has been recognized by The New York Times, Kirkus Reviews, and Publishers Weekly, and has appeared on multiple “Best of the Year” lists, including selections by Kirkus, Seventeen Magazine, NBC Latino, and Texas Monthly. His debut novel was also a Junior Library Guild Selection and a Land of Enchantment Black Bear Book Award winner.
Born in El Paso and living in Tucson, Mendez is a military veteran and holds an MFA from the University of Arizona. His most recent novel, The Broke Hearts was an Américas Award Commended title and winner of an International Latino Book Award.
